Jay's Prayer: Hero

Growing up we all choose to have a ‘hero’ or maybe heroes, to save us from all our troubles. Like many, I have my fav heroes too. My dad was my 1^st and will always be my hero. Then there was Spiderman, Batman, Wolverine (My all time fav hero!). I was not so much of a Superman fan. There’s something so ‘gay’ about his costume.

We all want a hero to save us from our misery and ‘evil villains’. But there’s something about all this heroes we know and love so very much. They are not real! We as Christians, have a hero in all of us. A hero is who is real and powerful. Who does not need a super power or a funny costume, or fly and swing around hiding his true identity. Who is this hero I’m talking about? No he’s not Rajnikanth or Vijay ( tamil movie actor, though to many these people are not just heroes, but also gods!! ) I’m talking about our almighty God and saviour Jesus Christ!

Our God, our Jehovah Nissi will always bless us with victories over the Amalekites (Exodus 17:8-16)? In Exodus 17 : 8 – 16 we see the Israelites when into battle with the Amalekites. Who were the Amalekites? The Amalekites were the descendants of Amalek, who was a grandson of Esau, the brother of Jacob. If you remember, Esau and Jacob were born to Isaac and Rebekah. There was enmity or strife between these two brothers over the birthright and blessing of the first born. Jacob, together with his mother, schemed to deceive Isaac, and steal the blessing. This began a strife between the descendants of Esau and the descendants of Jacob or Israel, that continued from generation to generation. Verse 16 reads, "For he (Moses) said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation."

Are there any Amalekites in your life right now? Any bad habits, strong influence that’s holding you back from moving forward? Fears and hurts that you are avoiding from living life to the fullest? Time to time you will face these Amalekites, but don’t let these struggles in life drag you away from the truth. Psalms 121 Verse 1 – 2 says,

¹ I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?

² My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

Our hero up above, our Jehovah Nissi will rescue us from all our Amelekites and set us free. So have no fear my friends. Have no doubt that your hero will let you down. I know my hero won’t...=)

Now that you know you have a hero to catch you whenever you fall and who hears your tears in the middle of the night, look around you. What do you see? Do you see a girl sitting all alone in the street looking for love? Do you see a young boy stealing food just to get through one cold night? Do you see a sick man dying without the truth? People around us are dying. Whose hope is fading every second of their lives. They are desperate for a hero, a hero who will come and set them free from all their misery. You have a hero in you. A hero who is real and powerful, who is the King of kings, Lord of lords, the Alpha and Omega, the Almighty One!! You can change lives by just sharing what your hero did for you. Share your hero and make a different.
